Packing boxes
When you’re moving house, boxes are your most important asset — after all, they will be holding all of your precious belongings. While boxing up your goods will always seem like a bit of a chore, you can make the process much more enjoyable by understanding which boxes to use for specific items. Professional moving boxes are designed in a range of sizes and shapes so make sure you get hold of the right boxes before you even think about packing.
Corrugated cartons for fragile items
These specialised boxes have a sturdy double-wall design, with their corrugated construction making them perfect for breakable items. Corrugated boxes are perfect for packing your dishes, china, crystal, and glassware. If you require extra protection, you may want to use the cellular dividers that are built into the cartons.
Medium utility boxes
Medium utility boxes are an easy-to-handle option for a range of household belongings. These boxes are especially good for heavy items such as books and stationery supplies. Medium boxes are about 60 litres in size, with popular dimensions being 41 cm x 30 cm x 50 cm.
Large utility boxes
Large boxes are great for larger but less heavy items, including things like pots and pans, toys, cans and jars, and certain household appliances. Large boxes are about 110 litres in size, with popular dimensions being 43.5 cm x 38 cm x 67 cm.
Extra large utility boxes
Extra large boxes are ideal for bulky items such as lampshades, pillows, towels, and garden tools. It’s important not to place heavy items in these boxes if you want them to be easy to move. Extra large boxes can be up to 150 litres in size, with popular dimensions being 56 cm x 42 cm x 64 cm.
Specialised boxes
Specialised boxes include things like wardrobe boxes, mirror boxes, and picture boxes. These boxes are designed to hold and protect items that are a particular shape. While not everyone will need specialised boxes, they are often essential.
Padding interiors and wrapping
Along with boxes, it’s important to get hold of quality padding and wrapping materials to protect your belongings. Even the best boxes won’t provide much protection if your items are bouncing around inside. Bubble wrap and butchers paper should always be on hand, with white newspaper and old clothing also being useful to fill in the gaps.
Tape, box cutters, and marker pens
Packing tape is needed to seal moving boxes. Fragile tape is needed to indicate breakable contents. Box cutters are needed when you unpack and permanent markers are needed to label boxes. Unless your boxes are marked correctly, the movers won’t be able to place them in the right room and you won’t be able to find your belongings at the other end.
